Okay, Rihanna is the undisputed Queen of the Met Gala.
She never disappoints her outfit is always perfectly on the theme and absolutely breath-taking. The theme for 2018 was all about heavenly bodies and the Catholic inspiration, urging designers to take inspiration from traditional Catholic art and architecture. The stars really went for it this time round and some of my favourites truly looked like renaissance paintings come alive.
Rihanna killed it in this Pope inspired ensemble designed by Margiela, all of which was hand beaded and must have taken forever. For me, her makeup is a stand-out: light eyebrows and pale lips with a touch of iridescence in the centre, the soft grey smoky lids and glowy cheekbones are the stars of the show. I wanted to give a run-down of her look and find some dupes so that if you wanted to recreate this look you can, easily and cheaply.
The skin, of course, is flawless here. Essentials for recreating this look are; a smoothing, pore-diminishing primer, a good quality foundation, concealer, bronzer, blush, brightening powder and hydrating setting spray.

Rihanna’s brows are light here and very close to her skin tone in colour, she may have even bleached them. Rather than a heavy/bold brow, this look is all about the eyes. If your brows are already light, simply shade and shape with a light coloured pencil, a taupe eyebrow pencil will work well for blonde and brown brows. If like me your eyebrows are thick and near-black, first brush and trim to eliminate excess brows, lightly apply foundation over the eyebrows with a sponge, blending into the rest of the face. Then redraw your eyebrows with a pencil in a lighter shade. If you don’t have the perfect pencil, I like to use a thin angled brush and a pigmented matte shadow. I often use a mix of colours to get the perfect shade.

This look is allll about the eyes, I’ve noticed the soft grey smokey look is something Rihanna goes for quite often. Start at the brow-bone with your lightest colour then work the mid-tone from lash line towards brow bone, finally blend your deepest shade from inner to outer corners forming a cat-eye. Here Rihanna is wearing a touch of white/translucent highlight in the centre of her eyelids and the inner corners. Use a gel or liquid liner to line your top lash-line, apply mascara and natural looking false lashes. I noticed that Rihanna does not appear to be wearing much makeup under her eyes at all, maybe a touch of brown eyeliner in the outer corners if anything.

I love the tips they’ve gone for with this look, a matte base with a translucent, pale finish in the centre, like a sort of reverse of the blotted lip-stain look we’ve seen gaining popularity in recent months. I would start by lining the top and bottom lips with a deep pink-brown and then applying a matte or non-shiny lipstick in a close shade to your natural lip colour. I would then apply a frosted pink lipstick in the centre of the lips and dust with a pale highlight.

Rihanna and Fenty Beauty are known for blinding highlight and this look is no exception, Riri’s brow, cheekbones, bridge of nose, cupid’s bow and chin are all glowing! Here are some highlighters I think will give the same iridescent glow.
