Reviews from Instagram:

‘This adorable little paperback book showed up and the stories pack a punch!…I’m still thinking about all five of these twisty stories and how each one made me feel. They’re dark and even a little tragic at times… “La Belle Dame Sans Merci” left me reeling. I wasn’t sure how to feel about Isabella, I’m still wondering about that ending!’ – @nic_reads_inheels

‘There were so many intriguing themes laced within all stories… I think one of my favourite stories of the collection was Sisters as I felt it was a story about strong women who won’t stand up for being wronged’ – @bookloverkate_

‘This little book of short stories is charming and sassy, and tells us the stories of six different women, all with strong amazing personalities! Recommend for a fun glamorous read!’ – @bookandcoffeetogo

‘An exciting and intriguing collection of short stories… perfect for those who like contemporary fiction. I loved this book and highly recommend it, I had to stay up late to finish it! I liked all the characters but my favourite was the cruel and sarcastic Isabella…’ – @mrsljgibbs

‘These short stories show the strength women have when they go through difficult situations. A few could have done with longer endings or being a full length novel. A truly eye opening set of narratives from some truly strong women.’ – @onceuponabookreview

‘These stories are super twisty and will keep you thinking about them for a WHILE. Highly recommend checking this out if you’re in the mood for a short, quick read that will keep you on your toes.’ – @geronimoreads

I’m not sure what it’s like where you are but it’s rainy and miserable here, never-mind. As awful as the weather is I’m in a positively buoyant mood because my first short-story collection is out!

It’s called Bad Women and, you guessed it, it’s all about women who misbehave. It’s not called Bad People for the very specific reason that these stories aren’t about horrible people but rather women who in some way transgress from the patriarchal, hegemonic ideas of what a woman should be and how she should behave.

I was inspired to write these stories because I love narratives about women I can relate to, women who don’t always say or do the right thing but are honest with themselves about what they need and how they feel. The stories are a lot about love, occasionally romantic but mostly about love between mothers and children, between sisters, and between friends. I believe that female friendship is a theme that could be explored a lot more in fiction because it’s so interesting and powerful so that’s something I wanted to touch on in my stories.

I’ve also included illustrations. They don’t serve much purpose but I want the book to look beautiful, something that can be given as a gift to yourself or others and genuinely enjoyed from cover to cover.

The names of the stories are:

The Femme Fatale Next Door

Sisters

The Five of Us

Meet Me in the Pale Moonlight

La Belle Dame Sans Merci

and

Dirty Talk

They cover themes like heart-break, revenge, friendship, loss and sexuality. I’d recommend them for readers aged 16 and over because of some mature content.

If you fancy giving these a read I hope it will be worth your while. Every writer wants their readers to laugh, and cry, and have their thoughts provoked by their stories but I hope these stories make you smile and if nothing else provide a pleasant little escape from reality, for a moment at least.
